The Challenge......
Eleven months ago our company's owner tasked our technical staff to design the toughest emergency solar power systems that the current state of technology could provide.
First these systems had to
include big name brand equipment from well seasoned companies. There was to be no
tolerance for unproven technology or inexperienced manufacturers with their
"Beta" class products. And especially no products from third world countries
that may work when you first take them out of the box only to fail when you need
them most.
Second, these
systems had to be affordable. If they were overpriced then no one would buy them
and months worth of evaluations not to mention the expense would have been gone
to waste.
And third and most importantly they had to be
bullet proof so hence the name "Ballistic Series".
We operate one of the oldest, most experienced factory authorized service center in the nation, so over the past 14 years our techs have seen every kind of product failure imaginable so they knew exactly what to do to try and blowup each piece of equipment that up we tested.
If you would have walked into our service center during our testing, you would have thought that you had accidently strolled on the set of the "Myth Busters" during a shooting of one of their episodes. The products that we tested were subjected to DC over voltages and under voltages, AC back-feeds and short circuits, inductive and reactive load stress, overload and over temperature conditions. We even performed non-constrained product drop tests from a height of 48 inches to check for chassis displacement, fractured circuit boards and broken solder joints.
As expected, many of the products that we tested failed immediately. Some tolerated multiple abuses but they too failed eventually.
When the testing was over, there were a couple of winners that we simply could not make fail despite some of the most destructive testing that any electronic product could experience.
In the end it then came down to a rather heated debate and then finally a vote.

What Is It ?
It was September 2001 and Popular Mechanics Magazine introduced the world to the science behind the creation of and the devastating effects of an EMP Bomb (Electromagnetic Pulse Bomb).
Today, 10 years later the potential for the existence of an advanced, non-nuclear, tactical EMP device is greater than ever and the use of such a device by a terrorist group becomes ever more real.
A successful EMP device causes little damage to buildings and people but the resulting electromagnetic pulse creates a sudden, intense burst of electromagnetic energy. The rapidly changing electric fields and magnetic fields couple with electrical/electronic systems to produce high intensity current and voltage surges that can damage electronic as well as electrical equipment.
An isolated detonation of a high yield, non-nuclear, EMP device near a key power distribution substation could cause a cascade effect that would induce power outages over a widespread area involving hundreds of square miles.
An example of a cascade effect was allegedly triggered recently by a single utility company worker at the North Gila substation in Yuma Arizona, a critical link in a giant transmission path called the Southwest Power Link. This single failure triggered prolonged power outages in parts of California, Arizona and Mexico effecting millions of utility customers even causing the San Onofre nuclear-power station near San Clemente, California to shut down its two nuclear reactors.
Whether it's an EMP bomb or an earthquake or a windstorm or other natural or manmade disaster, our aging electrical generating and distribution infrastructure is now stressed to its limits.
As our society embeds itself ever more deeper into its reliance on electricity dependant technology, the need for preparedness has never been more critical.
Many states as well as local municipalities permit the home owner to perform a self installation of this system as long as the system is installed according to current NEC electrical codes. Although this may be permitted, Off Grid Solar, Inc. highly recommends that the installation of this system be performed only by a licensed electrician.
